The location

Nusa Penida's icons, on foot.

Day-trippers spend an hour on the road and arrive with the crowds. From Raja Lima you are at the Treehouse in 2 minutes and on Diamond Beach or Atuh Beach in 10, early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the crowds are gone. For sunrise, our ocean deck has the best view.

Tip: Diamond Beach faces east, so go early. Atuh Beach stays sunny all day.

Welcome to Raja Lima

A quiet corner of Nusa Penida.

Raja Lima is a small village of wooden bungalows on the cliffs of Nusa Penida's east coast, run by a warm local team. Here, on the unspoiled side of the island, your days are filled with the ocean, the palms and the gentle sound of the waves.

Days here start with sunrise over the Thousand Islands and end with a slow dinner on the terrace. Here, slowing down comes naturally.

What you'll find here

  • Peace and space. An ocean view to wake up to every morning.
  • Made for couples and solo travellers. Perfect for a honeymoon, a slow holiday or time on your own.
  • Room for your group. Friends, birthdays and retreats are all welcome.
  • The island's icons on foot. Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach are a short walk away. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, before and after the crowds.
  • Time for yourself. Rest, read, practise yoga and enjoy a massage at shi•ra spa.
  • Good food with a view. Long meals and quiet evenings on the terrace.
  • Little visitors. Geckos are a symbol of Bali and help keep flies and mosquitoes away. You may sometimes hear their sound in the garden or around the bungalow roofs. They are completely harmless.

What you won't find here, and why we love it

  • No parties or nightlife. Evenings here end with stars, the sound of the waves and an early night, ready for sunrise.
  • No busy social scene. It's a quiet place to slow down, read, and talk with the people you came with.
  • No busy restaurant street. Just a few nice little local restaurants and a mini-mart next door. At Raja Lima, our own restaurant serves food from 7 am to 10 pm.
  • No TV in the room. The view is your screen: sunrise over the Thousand Islands every morning.
  • No fridge or minibar. Fresh coconuts, juices and cold drinks are always ready at our bar, a short walk away.
  • Hand showers. Running water is not yet available on this side of the island, so we bring fresh water in by truck every day. That is why we keep showers short.

Hotel views

Watch the sky and the ocean change, from sunrise to sunset.

Every morning the sun rises over the Thousand Islands and the Lombok Strait, right in front of our ocean deck, a few steps from your bungalow. From then on, the view never stays the same.

Rest · Rooms & bungalows

Wooden bungalows, ocean air.

Our bungalows are traditional wooden gladaks, revisited and rebuilt here on the cliffs. Inside, Balinese craft meets a touch of Morocco: linen curtains, locally hand-woven bed runners, carved wood and brass. Every bungalow has a private terrace, air conditioning and a king-size bed.

“Exceptional experience,” says Kai.

Our massage is an invitation to slow down, soften and reconnect with yourself. Our experienced local women therapists do not follow a fixed routine: they listen to your body and adapt every treatment, at your preferred pressure.

Evening · The restaurant & bar

Eat well and enjoy the view.

The east coast is remote. Our restaurant means you never need to drive back across the island for a good meal: Indonesian favourites and international plates, from breakfast to sunset drinks.

Getting here

Two short steps from Bali.

Nusa Penida is an island, so the only way here is by speed boat, from Bali or from the other islands like Lombok or Nusa Lembongan.

1

Speed boat to Nusa Penida

  • From Sanur (best from the airport, Seminyak, Canggu or the south): about 30 to 45 minutes.
  • From Kusamba (best from Ubud, Sidemen or East Bali): about 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Boats arrive at different harbours. Sampalan is the closest to us, but any harbour works.
