Where to stay near Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach
Day-trippers spend an hour on the road and arrive with the crowds. From Raja Lima you are at the Treehouse in 2 minutes and on Diamond Beach or Atuh Beach in 10, early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the crowds are gone.

The location
Nusa Penida's east coast, on foot.
Many visitors see the east of Nusa Penida on a day trip, arriving in the afternoon with everyone else. Staying here changes the day completely. Raja Lima is a small village of wooden bungalows on the cliffs, with three of the island's best-known places within walking distance:
- The Treehouse and the Thousand Islands viewpoint: 2 minutes' walk.
- Diamond Beach: 10 minutes' walk.
- Atuh Beach: 10 minutes' walk.
The road gets busy with day-trippers in the afternoon. The beaches are calm in the morning and after 4 pm, and inside Raja Lima it stays peaceful all day.

Beach tips
When to go, and where to swim.
- Diamond Beach faces east, so go early. The morning light is at its best, and you will have the stairs and the sand almost to yourself.
- Atuh Beach stays sunny all day, and it is the calmer of the two.
- Swimming at Diamond Beach is often not allowed because of strong waves. Atuh Beach is the better choice for a swim.
- Sunrise needs no walk at all. Every morning the sun rises over the Thousand Islands and the Lombok Strait, right in front of our ocean deck.
After the beach, our restaurant and shi•ra spa are open to walk-in guests, so you can come straight back up for a coconut, lunch or a massage.

Good to know
A quiet corner of the island.
The east coast is remote, and that is its charm. There is no nightlife and no busy restaurant street: just a few nice little local restaurants and a mini-mart next door. Our own restaurant serves Indonesian favourites and international plates from 7 am to 10 pm, so you never need to drive back across the island for a good meal.
Running water is not yet available on this side of the island, so we bring fresh water in by truck every day and keep showers short. There is no TV or minibar in the rooms, but the whole property runs on Starlink internet, so you can work and take video calls.
Nusa Penida is reached by speed boat from Bali. Our page on getting to Nusa Penida explains the boat and the drive to Raja Lima.
